What happenedThe vessel experienced adverse weather at anchor while waiting for loading. Master contacted Port Authorities for instructions and same requested from the office. Due to delay in communication and more severe weather conditions developed vessel lost anchor but fortunately managed to start Main Engine timely and avoided possible grounding or collision. Preventive actionsIt is advised to Masters when vessels are at anchor, due consideration shall be given to heave up anchor when wind force reach Beaufort Scale 7 to proceed to Sea for the safety of the vessel. The Master should contact the office before heaving up anchor or taking any actions when faced with adverse weather condition while the vessel is at anchor. However, it is Masters discretion based on his prevailing weather condition and risk assessment when to heave up the anchor. |
