In 2014 Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) announced that from 1 January 2017 onwards it will be mandatory for all bunker tankers supplying within Singapore waters to use mass flow metering (MFM) system for Marine Fuel Oil (MFO). What is MFM and how it works?

The Mass Flow Meter operates on the Coriolis principle which measures the oscillation frequency of measuring tubes in the meter. The sensors at the inlet and outlet ends register the resultant phase shift in the tube's oscillation geometry and compute the rate of mass flow. Wiki

The MFM system comprises the mass flow meter, its ancillary devices, pipelines and sealing points. Currently (March 2017) MPA has approved two MFM makers: Endress and Hauser and Emerson.
