Mooring rope chafing normally experienced during open water mooring to buoys, barges or other ships as main cause of tear is relative movement of secured floating objects against each other due to the swell.
Firstly, the mooring ropes should be correctly and firmly passed and secured avoiding any tearing contact with chocks. In case tearing contact could not be avoided the following methods should be applied: 1) Plastic or rubber protectors 2) Use of chains on chaffing points |
