Class A: Used for fires which are the result of the burning of wood, glass fiber, upholstery and furnishing.
Class B: Used for fires which occur from liquids such as lubricating oils and fuels.
Class C: For 'electrical' fires resulting from involvement of energized electrical equipment such as motors, switches, wiring etc.
Class D: Metal fires (such as magnesium) are extinguished by D-type of fire extinguishers.
Class E: This type of fire extinguisher is used for any of the above-mentioned fires along with burning high voltage equipment.
