Answer:

The compass must be adjusted:

  • When the deviation exceeds 5 degrees.
  • When the vessel has been laid up for long period.
  • When there is a major structural repair or alteration of the ship's structure.
  • After carrying metallic cargoes such as pig iron or iron ore & I believe that it has affected the deviation of my compass.

The Master can carry out compensation of the compass if provided that there is no available License Compass Adjuster on the port of call.
