The Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring that Class machinery items are inspected at the Class required intervals.

The Chief Engineer shall

  • Have Class authorization letter to carry out limited surveys.
  • Carry out surveys as authorized.
  • Obtain from the Master the CMS and monitor expiration date of surveyable items of CMS list.
  • Prepare machinery for survey and invite, through the Master the Class Surveyor to credit surveys.

In carrying out such surveys the Chief Engineer shall endeavor to combine inspection of CMS with other surveys in order to reduce cost. The request for surveys shall be done on a requisition form. Surveys carried out by the Chief Engineer shall be reported to the Owner/Operator.
