The temperature of the feed water for an auxiliary boiler is automatically controlled by a pneumatically actuated steam valve at the inlet to the pre-heater. It is noticed that during high demand the temperature falls by an unacceptable amount and takes a long time to return to the set temperature even though the steam supply pressure remains constant. What may be the cause?

Answer:

The controller proportional band is set too wide and the reset time is set too long.
