During ME / AE piston overhaul , before lifting up the piston (after removal of all the connections) , stoppers/ liner holding down tool must be fitted on top of the cylinder liner to prevent its vertical shifting. Refer to the manual and follow the correct procedure . When this procedure is not followed during main engine and aux engine overhauls, it may result in vertical shifting of the liner, which happens often . The liner sits on the cylinder jacket housing. Once the liner has moved from its place, there will be a possibility of a cooling water leak between the liner and the cylinder jacket. Due to the shifting of the liner, the job scope also increases as the liner has to be lifted out to rectify the leak resulting in unnecessary loss of time / resources and man power.
