  • Ore should not be dropped from a great height into a cargo hold, Because the tank top and double bottom internals can sustain damages
  • Control the rate at which iron ore is loaded so that the vessel can cope with de-ballasting operations
  • The minimum bow height, as required by SOLAS, cannot be maintained at sea due to squatting by the head
  • Beware of maximum angle of heel that will be caused by a shift of cargo
  • Ore cargoes is susceptible to liquefaction due to compression and/or vibration
  • vessel will normally have a large intact metacentric height (GM) and have a fast roll period
