Following SIRE inspection on board one of our vessel's fleet, the inspector recorded the following observation:
''2/O did not employ largest scale chart for the passage plan''.
- Our primary means for navigation is still paper chart.
- We have contract with GNS who is providing us with BA/UKHO charts and relating corrections as well.
- The chart of largest scale which was not used by 2/O is ''FR6907'', it belongs to france, and we do not have contract with any provider in this country.
- Within vessel's folio, this chart is not among the list of charts to be used.
Is the observation of SIRE inspector correct ?
We use ECDIS as a primary mean of navigation. Just checked in Voyager: the chart with the code FR6907 can not be found not in Paper Charts catalogue neither in ENC. There are FR569070 and FR66907A in ENC catalogue.
If subject chart could be proven as unavailable, the ligitimacy of observation is questionable and it may be disputed.
Please note, that in case of absence of Harbour / Berthing chart, Captain should inform Agent or Harbour Master. The chart should be provided with Pilot.
