What are the primary differences between MAN ME-B .2 and .3 series of electronic engines?

  1. In MAN ME-B .3 a "more aggressive cam" for exhaust valve had been introduced. This helps to increase engine performance at lower loads (<50%), compared to .2 series, by increasing Pcomp and Pmax.
  2. At the same time, too high Pcom and Pmax at high loads must be limited. This achieved by introducing an exhaust valve timing unit in .3 series of engines. It keeps the exhaust valve opened longer at loads above 50%.
  3. Engines of .3 series have dedicated CCU for each cylinder, while .2 series engines have CCUs for 2 units.
