For a 4 stroke trunk piston engine, smoke and increased pressure in the crankcase of the engine usually experienced.

For a 2-stroke engine, under-piston space exhaust temperatures of the affected are increased. During inspection of scavenging spaces of the unit with blow-by, signs of soots deposits are observed as well.
