Following areas are usually targeted by USCG inspectors:

Gas Detection - Sequential and Continuous


  • Unfamiliar with operating/calibrating procedures

  • Recommended span gas not certified or unavailable

Emergency Shutdowns


  • ESD valve close time from actuation-greater than 30 seconds

  • Painted fusible elements

MARVS - Maximum Allowable Relief Valve Settings


  • No tampered, missing, painted over, or worn seals

  • No setting certification record

Deck Water Spray


  • Obstructed nozzles

  • Insufficient water pressure

Electrical equipment (On deck in the gas dangerous zone)


  • Broken or exposed wiring

  • Cracked lenses

  • Broken bonding cables
