The rate of refrigerant flow through the restriction (metering device) must be adequately matched with the pumping capacity of the compressor.
This is required to maintain the low pressure in the evaporator for boiling of the refrigerant, and to maintain the high pressure in the condenser for proper heat rejection and condensation of the refrigerant vapor.
