One of the first components to be investigated when having a bearing failure is the condition of the main lube oil filter. Debris from a damaged filter has a tendency to spread everywhere in the lube oil system, for instance to the cooling space in the pistons from where there is a high risk that the particles can be back-flushed down to the crankpin bearings. Therefore, all pistons to be dismantled, and all bearings be inspected.
