Engine manufacturer states various wear limits in the manual book which is the first and most important reference. Normal wear on a ring made of a traditional cast iron material is approximately 0.15 mm to 0.30 mm for every 1000 running hour. Normal wear on liners is in general about two to three times less i.e. 0.05 to 0.15 mm. There are, however, large variations in wear between engines operating under different conditions.
