A mechanical lever formed between the force of weight acting vertically downward (from the centre of gravity) and the displaced force of buoyancy on heel acting upward (from centre of buoyancy on heel). It is a measure of a vessel's ability to return to the upright after heeling. It is termed the GZ lever and is calculated as a weight times a distance (a moment)
