A plate or wall for deflecting gases or liquids.

A wall in the furnace over which the products of combustion pass.

A structural member placed against a furnace or boiler wall to limit the motion of the wall against furnace pressure.

A local distortion or swelling outward caused by internal pressure on a tube wall or boiler shell due to overheating. Also applied to similar distortion of a cylindrical furnace due to external pressure when overheated, provided the distortion is of a degree that can be driven back.

A device which transfers heat through a conducting wall from one fluid to another.

Material which is a poor conductor of heat; used to retard or slow down flow of heat through wall or partition.

The normal force exerted by a homogeneous liquid or gas, per unit of area, on the wall of its container.

A reaction turbine utilizes a jet of steam that flows from a nozzle on the rotor. Actually, the steam is directed into the moving blades by fixed blades designed to expand the steam. The result is a small increase in velocity over that of the moving blades. These blades form a wall of moving nozzles that further expand the steam. The steam flow is partially reversed by the moving blades, producing a reaction on the blades. Since the pressure drop is small across each row of nozzles (blades), the speed is comparatively low. Therefore, more rows of moving blades are needed than in an impulse turbine.

A ridge (a line or wall of ice forced up by pressure) in which the base has frozen together.

Vertical partition walls which separates the interior of a ship into compartments or rooms
