A chemical process used in analyzing feedwater.

Related Terms

INJECTOR

1. An electrode through which charge carriers (holes or electrons) are forced to enter the high-field region in a spacistor. 2. An apparatus containing a nozzle in an actuating fluid which is accelerated and thus entrains a second fluid, so delivering the mixture against a pressure in excess of the actuating fluid. 3. A plug with a valved nozzle through which fuel is metered to the combustion chambers in dieselor full-injection engines. 4. A jet through which feedwater is injected into a boiler, or fuel is injected into a combustion chamber.

CONDENSATE POLISHER

A device used to clean the returning condensate to the boiler feedwater system.

RAW WATER

Untreated feedwater.

DE-CARBONATION

Refers to the removal of carbon dioxide from the boiler feedwater.

DE-AERATING HEATERS

Mechanical device using steam to strip dissolve gases from the boiler feedwater and heating the feedwater.

REGENERATIVE CYCLE

In the regenerative cycle, feedwater is passed through a series of feed-water heaters and is heated by steam extracted from stages of a steam turbine. This raises the feedwater to near the temperature of boiler water, thus increasing the thermal efficiency of the cycle.

EXTRACTION TURBINE

In an extraction turbine, steam is withdrawn from one or more stages, at one or more pressures, for heating, plant process, or feedwater heater needs. They are often called 'bleeder turbines'.

ECONOMIZER

A series of tubes located in the path of flue gases. Feedwater is pumped through these tubes on its way to the boiler in order to absorb waste heat from the flue gas.

FEEDWATER REGULATOR

A device for admitting feedwater to a boiler automatically on demand. Practically a constant water level should result.

HOT WELL

A tank used to receive condensate from various sources on its passage back to a boiler through the feedwater system. It usually is vented to atmosphere.
