A cannon pointing forward or aft, often of longer range than other guns. Those on the bow (bow chaser) were used to fire upon a ship ahead, while those on the rear (stern chaser) were used to ward off pursuing vessels. Unlike guns pointing to the side, chasers could be brought to bear in a chase without slowing.

A portion of a feedback control system that consists of a continuous network containing both forward elements and feedback elements.

LOGARITHMICDIODE

Adiodethathasan accurate semilogarithmic relationship between current and voltage over wide and forward dynamic ranges.

INSULATED-GATE BIPOLAR TRANSISTOR

A power semiconductor device that combines low forward voltage drop, gate-controlled turnoff, and high switching speed. It structurally resembles a vertically diffused MOSFET, featuring a double diffusion of a p-type region and an n-type region, but differs from the MOSFET in the use of a p substrate layer (in the case of an nchannel device) for the drain. The effect is to change the transistor into a bipolar device, as this p-type region injects holes into the n-type drift region. Abbreviated IGBT.

INJECTION ELECTROLUMINESCENCE

Radiation resulting from recombination of minority charge carriers injected in a pn or pin junction that is biased in the forward direction. Also known as Lossev effect;recombination electroluminescence.

INJECTION EFFICIENCY

A measure of the efficiency of a semiconductor junction when a forward bias is applied, equal to the current of injected minority carriers divided by the total current across the junction.
