An instrument used to take bearings of celestial objects.

LANDING COMPASS
A compass taken ashore so as to be unaffected by deviation. If reciprocal bearings of the landing compass and the magnetic compass on board are observed, the deviation of the latter can be determined.

LIGHT SECTOR
As defined by bearings from seaward, the sector in which a navigational light is visible or in which it has a distinctive color different from that of adjoining sectors, or in which it is obscured. See also SECTOR LIGHT.

BAD-BEARING SECTOR
Relative to a radio direction finder station or radio- beacon, a sector within which bearings are known to be liable to significant errors of unknown magnitudes.

COMPASS REPEATER
That part of a remote-indicating compass system which repeats at a distance the indications of the master compass. One used primarily for observing bearings may be called a bearing repeater. Also called REPEATER COMPASS.
