COMBAT CHARTA specialpurpose chart of a landsea area using the characteristics of a map to represent the land area and a chart to represent the sea area, with special features to make the chart useful in naval operations, particularly amphibious operations. Also called MAP CHART.
LUMINANCEIn a given direction, at a point on the surface of a source or receptor, or at a point on the path of a beam, the quotient of the luminous flux leaving, arriving at, or passing through an element of surface at this point and propagated in directions defined by an elementary cone containing the given directions, by the product of the solid angle of the cone and the area of the orthogonal projection of the element of surface on a plane perpendicular to the given direction. The derived unit of luminance in the International System of Units is the CANDELA PER SQUARE METER.
SYNOPTIC CHARTIn meteorology, any chart or map on which data and analyses are presented that describe the state of the atmosphere over a large area at a given moment of time. A synoptic surface chart is an analyzed synoptic chart of surface weather observations.
DROPFEED LUBRICATIONA system that feeds the lubricant in drops to the area required.
ISOCLINIC CHARTA chart of which the chief feature is a system of isoclinic lines. Also called ISOCLINAL CHART.

BASELINE DELAYThe time interval needed for the signal from a master station of a hyperbolic radionavigation system to travel the length of the baseline, introduced as a delay between transmission of the master and slave (or secondary) signals to make it possible to distinguish between the signals and to permit measurement of time differences.
TACANAn ultra high frequency aeronautical radionavigation system which provides a continuous indication of bearing and distance to a Tacan station.
STERADIANThe supplementary unit of solid angle in the International System of Units, which, having its vertex in the center of a sphere, cuts off an area on the surface of the sphere equal to that of a square with sides of length equal to the radius of the sphere.
