A phase meter used in the Decca Navigator System

Related Terms

DECCA NAVIGATOR SYSTEM

A short to medium range low frequency (70- 130 kHz) radionavigation system which yields a hyperbolic line of position of high accuracy. The system is an arrangement of fixed, phase locked, continuous wave transmitters operating on harmoni- cally related frequencies and special receiving and display equip- ment carried on a vessel or other craft. The operation of the system depends on phase comparison of the signals from the transmitters brought to a common comparison frequency within the receiver.

PHASE MARGIN

The difference between 180 and the phase of the loop ratio of a stable system at the gain-crossover frequency.

FREQUENCY-RESPONSE CURVE

A graph showing the magnitude or the phase of the freqency response of a device or system as a function 235 frequency-response curve frequency-response trajectory of frequency. Also known as frequency characteristic. frequency spectrum

PHASE METER

An instrument for measuring the difference in phase of two waves of the same frequency.

COMPARISON FREQUENCY

In the Decca Navigator System, the common frequency to which the incoming signals are converted in order that their phase relationships may be compared.

DEW-POINT PRESSURE

The gas pressure at which a system is at its dew point, that is, the conditions of gas temperature and pressure at which the first dew or liquid phase occurs.

PHASE DIAGRAM

  1. A graph showing the pressures at which phase transitions between different states of a pure compound occur, as a function of temperature. 2. A graph showing the temperatures at which transitions between different phases of a binary system occur, as a function of the relative concentrations of its components.

ELLIPTICAL SYSTEM

A tracking or navigation system where ellipsoids of position are determined from time or phase summation relative to two or more fixed stations which are the focuses for the ellipsoids.

PHASE ADVANCER

Phase modifier which supplies leading reactive volt-amperes to the system to which it is connected; may be either synchronous or asynchronous.

OMEGA NAVIGATION SYSTEM

A worldwide. continuous, radionavigation system of medium accuracy which provides hyperbolic lines of position through phase comparisons of VLF (10-14kHz) continuous wave signals transmitted on a common frequency on a time- shared basis. The full system is comprised of eight transmitting stations.
