INTERROGATOR

A radar transmitter which sends out a pulse that triggers a transponder. An interrogator may be combined in a single unit with a responsor, which receives the reply from a transponder and produces an output suitable for feeding a display system; the combined unit is called INTERROGATOR-RESPONDER. Also called CHALLENGER.

A number of signal flags strung together to convey a message.

HORN

A sound signal which uses electricity or compressed air to vibrate a disc diaphragm.

IONOSPHERIC ERROR

The total systematic and random error resulting from the reception of a navigation signal after ionospheric reflections. It may be due to variations in transmission paths, non-uniform height of the ionosphere, or non-uniform propagation within the iono- sphere. Also called IONOSPHERIC-PATH ERROR, SKYWAVE ERROR.
