For the one-dimensional error distribution, this term has the same meaning as STANDARD DEVIATION or STANDARD ERROR. For the two-dimensional error distribution, this term has the same meaning as RADIAL (drms) ERROR. However, such use of the term is deprecated. Root mean square error is commonly called RMS ERROR.
