LOW-TEMPERATURE CARBONIZATION
Low-temperature destructive distillation of coal to produce liquid products.
|
LENGTH OF SHOT
The depth of the shot hole, in which powder is placed, or the size of the block of coal or rock to be loosened by a single blast, measured parallel with the hole.
|
HYDROGASIFICATION
A technique to manufacture synthetic pipeline gas from coal; pulverized coal is reacted with hot, raw, hydrogen-rich gas containing a substantial amount of steam at 1000 pounds per square inch gage (6.9 106 pascals, gage) to form methane.

HYDRAULIC DRILL
A rotary drill powered by hydrodynamic means and used to make shot-firing holes in coal or rock, or to make a well hole.

FUEL NOx
NOx that is formed from nitrogen that is organically bound to the fuel molecule. Fuel NOx is most often a problem with liquid fuel or coal burning. Once the nitrogen has been cracked from the fuel molecule, the mechanism follows basically the same path as the prompt NOx mechanism.
