BULKER

A merchant ship specially designed to transport unpackaged bulk cargo in its cargo holds.

REFRIGERATED VESSEL

A vessel designed specifically for the carriage of chilled or frozen goods usually break bulk or unitized on pallets, such as eggs, fruits, meats, etc.

GRAIN ELEVATOR

Facility at which bulk grain is unloaded, weighed, cleaned, blended and exported.

BULK

A cargo shipped in loose condition and of a homogeneous nature. Cargoes that are shipped unpackaged either dry, such as grain and ore, or liquid, such as petroleum products. Bulk service generally is not provided on a regularly scheduled basis, but rather as needed, on specialized ships, transporting a specific commodity.

CRUSHER

A machine for crushing rock and other bulk materials.

CLINGAGE

Oil or other product which remains on the tank and piping walls after the bulk of the product or oil has been removed.

CARGO SHIP

Any sort of ship or vessel that carries cargo, goods, and materials from one port to another, including general cargo ships (designed to carry break bulk cargo), bulk carriers, container ships, multipurpose vessels, and tankers. Tankers, however, although technically cargo ships, are routinely thought of as constituting a completely separate category.

AERIAL TRAMWAY

A system for transporting bulk materials that consists of one or more cables supported by steel towers and is capable of carrying a traveling carriage from which loaded buckets can be lowered or raised. Also known as aerial cableway; aerial ropeway.
